Chemical Peels

pragna skin and laser clinics

Chemical Peels are a popular non-surgical procedure. The skin’s top layer is peeled to improve sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented, or wrinkled skin, thus improving the evenness and texture. It makes your skin look healthier, luminous, and more youthful.

How does it work?

We apply a chemical solution to the skin that causes it to exfoliate and peel off, which subsequently allows healthy, new skin to regenerate. There are three types of chemical peels:

  • Superficial Peel: Mild acids like AHA are used that penetrate only to the outer layers to cause exfoliation. It is commonly used for superficial pigmentation and to improve texture.
  • Medium Peel: Solutions such as glycolic acid or trichloroacetic acid are applied. These penetrate deeper into the skin than the superficial peels and improve fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, and deeper pigmentation. They are also used to improve texture and to treat some pre-cancerous growths like actinic keratosis.
  • Deep Peel: We commonly use Phenol or TCA, and these penetrate deeper. You will see a dramatic improvement. We can use these to treat wrinkles, scars, stubborn pigmentation, freckles.

Why do I need a chemical peel?

Chemical peels show good benefits in the following:

  • Acne Scars
  • Sun-Damaged Skin
  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Sagging
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Aging Skin
  • Uneven Skin Tone
  • Uneven Texture

What should I expect before and during the procedure?

Please consult us for a full evaluation. Avoid waxing, scrubbing for one week before the procedure, and retinol for two days prior.

During the procedure:
After cleansing your face, we will apply a peeling solution to the area for a set amount of time. A neutralizing solution will follow this.
You might experience some burning sensation for a couple of minutes during and after the procedure. We may prescribe ice compresses and pain medication to address the discomfort.

What to expect after my procedure?

Right after a peel, your skin is more vulnerable to sun damage. Strict sun protection with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30+ is necessary. Redness and exfoliation might occur for about 3-5 days but maybe longer in deeper peels. You can usually wear camouflage make-up after a day or two. We suggest avoiding extensive exercise or heavy sweating for 2-3 days.

When can I see results?

After one peel, you will notice an observable difference in your skin. However, with regular treatments, you can obtain the best results. Since skin damage multiplies over time, it also takes time to reverse it.
