Laser Hair Reduction

pragna skin and laser clinics

Are you tired of plucking, waxing, and shaving? Excessive or unwanted dark hair can be safely and effectively removed using various lasers. Laser hair reduction is more efficient and permanent than the other conventional methods. Fast, effective, and affordable laser hair reduction not only helps you save money in the long run but can also help you avoid ingrown hairs and shaving or waxing rashes.

How does it work?

Laser hair reduction is a medical procedure that uses pulses of light to remove unwanted hair. This light inhibits or further delays hair growth by targeting the melanin pigment present in hair follicles.

Whom does it help?

Laser hair reduction is indicated for several patient concerns:

  • Aesthetic purposes for unwanted body hair.
  • Side effects of other methods of hair reduction: razor bumps, breakouts, ingrown hair, etc.
  • Hirsutism.
  • Hypertrichosis.
  • Excess hair on birthmarks.
  • Pilonidal Sinus.
  • Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
  • Pseudofolliculitis Barbae.
  • Acne Keloidalis Nuchae.
  • Trichostasis Spinulosa.
  • Axillary Hyperhidrosis.
  • Reconstructive surgery with hair-bearing flaps.
  • Genital gender-affirming surgery.
  • Folliculitis Decalvans, etc

What areas can be treated?

You can use it in most parts of the body like:

  •  Face
  •  Underarms
  •  Arms
  •  Legs
  •  Abdomen
  •  Back
  •  Chest
  •  Bikini area

What are the technologies available?

Diode Laser, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Nd: YAG, Alexandrite, Ruby, and triple wavelength lasers are all used for Laser Hair Reduction. Depending on your skin type and nature of the hair, we will choose the right technology for you to obtain optimal results.

Do I need any other tests?

Excessive hair growth on the face and neck may be caused by hormonal imbalances such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Hormonal testing may be advised depending on the individual.

How many sessions will I need?

There are three phases of hair growth: anagen (active), catagen (regressive), and telogen (inactive). Hair on different parts of the body has different growth cycles, and not all the hair in a single area are in the same phase of growth. Lasers effectively treat only the hairs that are in the active phase of growth (anagen). Therefore, a series of treatments are needed at an interval of 4-6 weeks to address new growth cycles. Usually, about 8-10 treatments achieve up to 80% reduction in hair growth. More number of sessions might be required in people with hormonal issues.

What happens during the procedure?

A handheld laser device is run across the skin surface. Some people might feel a slightly warm, stinging sensation. A topical anesthetic may be used depending on the patient. We will provide protective eye shields. The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and with little or no pain. However, if you experience any discomfort during your laser treatment, let us know so that we can arrange for pain relief. Treatment time is mostly dependent on the body area being treated. Smaller areas like the chin may only take a few minutes, whereas legs may take up to 45 mins.

What aftercare do I need?

In most cases, there is no downtime, and you can resume daily activities at once. You may experience some redness post-procedure. It is critical to protect the treated skin from sun exposure and follow the prescription given by us.

Who is not suitable?

Laser Hair Reduction is a safe treatment with no serious side effects. We can safely do it for most individuals. The following people are not suitable for the procedure:

  • People with an active infection, herpetic lesions, tattoos, or permanent make up in the area.
  • Pregnant women.
  • Patients with autoimmune disease.

It is important to share your medical history and the medications you are on with us at the beginning of your sessions.

Is laser hair reduction affordable?

Yes! If you compare the cost of laser hair reduction to the lifetime cost of waxing or shaving, it is very affordable and will save you both time and money. The price of the treatment depends upon the body areas being treated
